The Case of Abdul Rahman
Who or what gives anybody the right to refuse someone his or her personal beliefs? The answer is nobody and nothing. The case of Abdul Rahman, an Afghan who converted from Islam to Christianity, now facing a death sentence from Afghan Muslim clerics, is a highly debatable issue. But, to me there is only one correct solution.
Shouldn't the judgement of a person be left to God or whoever created the universe and everything within it? What gives a simple human being the right to judge anybody?
Jesus was believed to have said to the people who wanted to stone a woman for fonication, "He of you who is without sin, cast the first stone." Why did he say this? He knew that the people who were gathered there to stone the woman were guilty of committing some form of sin. This is why we repent and ask God for forgiveness. God is the only one that has the ability and power to cast judgement on a person. Not human beings. I am not implying that we should live without law and order. But, we should leave the matters of the spiritual or relegious kinds to God.
Abdul Rahman should not have to face a death sentence for his individual rights. It is wrong for any Muslim to say that they have the power to execute him for being an apostate of Islam. God is the only judge of this matter.
