Death

There is something in the air tonight
Or was it there before and I failed to see
There is a silent music playing
Though I can't hear, I feel the vibration
How could I have missed it, how can that be?

I see the trees sway side to side to the silent music
I try hard to hear the sweet tune
I ask Mother Nature to let me in on the secret
She tells me its hidden in the darkness of space
Harder to decipher than the most ancient rune

Why should it be hidden, I ask
Ask The Lord, she softly answers
I put up my hands in frustration
Why should this be such a mystery
Am I not known to you, or am I one of the strangers?

The strangers are those who are left in the dark
They are never to step into the light
They are blind though they are able to see
Such a difficult burden to bear
Only The Lord can curse them with such a plight

I demand The Lord to let me in
He refuses to answer my plea
I try to sneak past his mighty barrier
He laughs at my amateurish attempt
He says, My son, you're already free

What is it you wish to see
For seeing will only make you blind
What is the you wish to hear
For what you hear may be only for your own ears
Not to be shared with the rest of your kind

I say, I do not seek anything to be shared with others
Only do I want it for my own satisfaction
I know this is a sign of my selfishness
But, you created me so, a mortal man who thinks of self
Swift to act, not thinking of your reaction

I feel a cool touch on my neck
I turn around and see nothing there
Fear sets into the deepest corners of my heart
Have I displeased The Lord thorough my questioning
Will he set Death to follow me with his dark glare

I suddenly realize the night has gone to sleep
The day was glad to come sprinting this way
The shadows under my eyes were left as a sign
A sign of what I know has been no nightmare
Only too real, I am only a pawn in The Lord's play

I step into the sunlight and feel the kiss of the sun
Then I feel the air tickle me with her breath
I feel the cool tears of the clouds and the roar of thunder
I take off on a run
I try to fly away from Death

I am no bird, wings are not a part of me
The fear has made me a fool
Why did I dare to question The One who knows best
Have I stepped out of his mercy
I plead to you Lord, Don't be so cruel

Foolish you are my little one
Answers the Lord sternly, but softly
You knew not what you asked for
Through Death you'll find your answers
I give you what you want, so face him boldly
