Stranger

I was walking down a dark and lonely road.
I couldn't see the end.
Darkness covered me like a cloud.
I could have used a friend.
Too afraid I was to turn back,
To the place where there was light.
Walking towards uncertainty,
To run away from a lost fight.
My tears were my companions,
Coming and going as they pleased.
My Thoughts asked me for a ransom,
To let go of the Mind that they had seized.
Then, a stranger came walking by.
She stopped and looked my way.
With a kind smile and a twinkle in her eye,
She tried to brighten up my day.
Thought to myself, "Can I trust her,?"
"What does she have up her sleeve?"
Everything in my mind was a blur
I was tired of being deceived
I had lost faith in mankind.
I wanted to be alone.
This cruel world had made me blind
I wanted to be on my own
The stranger kept staring.
I wanted her to leave.
My thoughts I didn't feel like sharing.
I wanted solitude to grieve.
I was afraid to give her my trust
Not knowing where it would lead
But, inside I was turning to dust
From all the tears that I had to bleed
A coward dies many deaths
My father always said
Maybe it was cowardice walking down that road
Not wanting to think about what lay ahead
My Thoughts wanted me to close myself in.
But, my Mind wouldn't comply.
So, bit by bit I started sharing.
I spread my wings and started to fly
I am still walking down that road
I can see a little bit of light towards the end
The stranger who I didn't want to trust
She's now a good friend
